Adv. P.S. Sreedharan Pillai Receiving Amritakeerthi Award

Adv. P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, former Governor of Mizoram and Goa, distinguished lawyer and prolific author, has been selected for this year’s Amritakeerthi Award, instituted by the Mata Amritanandamayi Math.

The award comprises a cash prize of ₹1,23,456, a Saraswati sculpture designed by renowned artist Namboodiri, and a citation. Instituted in 2001, the Amrutakeerthi Award recognises distinguished contributions in the fields of spirituality, knowledge and science.

The selection committee was chaired by Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, with Dr. K.S. Radhakrishnan, Dr. M. Lakshmi Kumari and Swami Turiyamritananda Puri as members.

Announcing the selection, Swami Turiyamritananda Puri highlighted Pillai’s profound understanding of Indian philosophy and spirituality. He noted that the interconnectedness of God, nature and humanity—a central principle of spirituality—is reflected in Pillai’s life, writings and speeches. His contributions to literature and knowledge have been significant alongside his distinguished career in law and public life.

Pillai has authored 270 books spanning poetry, essays, legal studies, travelogues, political analysis and spiritual philosophy, making him one of Kerala’s most prolific authors among political leaders.

Beyond his legal and political career, Adv. P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, has maintained a deep engagement with Indian philosophy and Hindu spirituality. His writings and public addresses explore spirituality as a way of life rooted in humanity, social service and the relationship between God, nature and humankind. His friendships and dialogues with spiritual leaders from Christian and Islamic communities also reflect his engagement across religious traditions.
