Honouring Mother Earth in Honour of Amma: Visual Essay

In an auspicious confluence of events, World Cleanup Day happens on September 20th—just one week before Amritavarsham, the grand celebrations for Amma’s birthday.

To prepare this year, volunteers across India took part in a mega cleanup drive around our Ashrams, Amrita University campuses, and Amrita Hospitals. The event was part of our Amala Bharatam Campaign—Clean India, Beautiful India.

In villages surrounding Amritapuri, local volunteers, Ashram residents, international visitors, AYUDH youth members, university students and community leaders joyfully picked up trash.

From the villages of Clappana in the north to Arattupuzha in the south, they spanned about 17km.

Faculty and students with Amrita’s Medical, Nursing and Dentistry Schools in Kochi do their part.

To complete these expressions of love and devotion to Mother Earth, the teams also planted saplings.

At the end of the drive, all hearts were grateful to express their love and care for Mother Nature—a deeply moving way to continue with the week ahead.
