Mata Amritanandamayi Math Announces 6,000 Sanitation Facilities in Kerala, Tamil Nadu & Karnataka

In rural India, open defecation continues to threaten public health, contaminating water sources and disproportionately affecting women and children. For decades, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma) has been addressing this critical issue through compassionate, large-scale initiatives.

As part of her continued commitment to building an Open Defecation Free (ODF) India, the Mata Amritanandamayi Math announced at Amritavarsham 72 the construction of 6,000 new sanitation facilities for impoverished families across the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.

The announcement was followed by a symbolic distribution of beneficiary certificates, handed over by Shri L. Murugan, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, to families from the three states.

This initiative builds on Amma’s legacy of transformative social programs, empowering vulnerable communities with health, safety, and dignity. It also reflects Amma’s unwavering belief that true development must begin with compassion and serve those most in need.

With every facility built, the Math moves closer to Amma’s vision of a society where no family suffers due to lack of sanitation, and where dignity is recognized as a fundamental right for all.
